Hello Everyone

Welcome back to a new season of dance and especially to our Nutcracker Season. The rehearsal schedule for September has been posted at https://sites.google.com/site/kirkwoodnutcrackerschedule/ and there will be a link from www.kirkwoodacademy.com as well. There are 4 calendars (1 for each studio and 1 for special events). You need to use the direction arrows at the top of a calendar to scroll to the dates you are searching for (so initially, that would be the week of September 6th to 10th – please check all 3 studios). If you click on the event, a larger bubble will pop up and the info will appear more clearly. Minor changes (such as teachers or studios) may be made without notice, but if any time changes are made, you will be emailed as soon as possible. We will of course try to maintain the posted schedule as much as possible.

Please note that Carolé requires written indication when your child is ill or you are out of town and your child is not able to attend the rehearsals. Otherwise everyone is expected to attend all rehearsals. (I am sure I don’t have to tell you what a disadvantage your child and the group are at, when people miss rehearsals). Senior students will be rehearsed on Wednesday evenings so as to allow them to work on the weekends. It will just be nearer the time that we will need to have weekend rehearsals that include everyone. After the first week of rehearsals during “back to school week” we will have our main rehearsals on Saturdays. Later down the road we will add some Sunday rehearsals. From this point on, we will keep you posted three weeks in advance. Please note though that there could be some changes as some parts may need more rehearsing and some parts may need less rehearsing and this is a call we would make as we see how things progress.

Please note that there will be a Parent Meeting on Friday the 17th September from 6:30 – 7:30. Everyone involved in Nutracker should have one representative at the meeting please. (Please note that this is different to the time and day we first suggested when we gave out the Audition Forms).

During the meeting we would like to confirm the dates and times of the performances, ask for a Parent to be in charge of each group’s costume fitting, let you know how you can help to assist in putting on this wonderful production, but huge undertaking for the children as well as give you other information. We are asking each parent to volunteer four hours and we will suggest ways and ask you to choose the way that fits into your schedule. We would like to thank Jen Carr for all the years she has devoted to costuming our Nutcracker productions and to welcome and thank Sandra Hovey who has offered to continue the tradition. Thank you to Katheryn Boudreau who has already started making and gathering props and to Leanne Kelly who has offered to assist her as “Props Mistress”. I already had a little girl come up to me at syllabus and say that her dad said to tell me “his work would like to be a sponsor for the Nutcracker”. I thought that was wonderful, and if you can think about how you can help, no matter how big or how small, and present it at the meeting, it would be greatly appreciated. We are all there, parents and teachers alike, to make this an exciting and inspiring experience for our children.

Kirkwood clothing order is back for the 2010-2011 season! Sweatpants and t-shirts will be available. Samples will be available in the foyer of the studio for sizing during the first week of classes. Deadline for orders is September 27. Please fill out and print the order form attached. All order forms and cheques/money should be put in a sealed envelope and placed in the Kirkwood Clothing Order file folder located at the very front of the family files. Hi Everyone
Hope you are having happy summer holidays. We are pleased to announce the addition of Mr Alejandro Vargas to our faculty. We are now waiting for his visa application to be approved. Alejandro was born in Mexico and danced professionally for many years. He has choreographed and taught for schools and companies all over. We extend him a warm welcome at Kirkwood Academy.

We would also like to let you know that we are adding Adult Latin Rhythms (Mondays 7:45 – 8:45) and Junior Latin Rhythms (Weds 5:30 – 6:15) classes to the schedule taught by Alejandro. Because you don’t all know what the Latin Rhythms class will be like we would like to offer the first week of adult and junior Latin Rhythms classes (opening week 13th September) to anyone and everyone who would like to try it out. Please wear jazz shoes or runners. We have also added a senior “Pointe Variations Class” to a Tuesday evening, and moved the Advanced 1 syllabus class around so that it did not clash with the Senior Jazz as some of the seniors would have liked to do both classes.

We have changed the Fall schedule to include Alejandro’s classes. We have also changed it because after registration some of the classes had as many as 22 in the class and thus we had to split a few classes. We have changed it as little as we could, and have tried to make it as easy as possible for you to cope with the changes (two classes back to back or with a short break between, etc). We know some of you have planned your schedule in the Fall carefully and we really apologize. We did not contemplate the changes lightly, and Leah, Bev and I have put a lot of thought into it to try and make it work all round. Leah will be emailing out all the changes this week while we are teaching syllabus.

Welcome back to the beginning of the 2010-2011 Kirkwood dance year. The first week of syllabus begins next week, Monday Aug. 9th – 13th and the second week runs from Monday Aug. 16th – 20th. First day of regular classes begins on Sept. 13th.

*_IMPORTANT INFORMATION_*
** *Kirkwood is now a _NUT AWARE_ dance school. *
*As we have recently learned, we have a few students and young siblings who have severe, life threatening allergies to nuts. We are asking that all students refrain from bringing ANY nut products into the dance school for meals or snacks. This includes such things as some cereal bars, granola bars, all types of nuts and trail mix, all nut butters (including peanut butter) etc. We would appreciate everyone’s support in helping to keep all of our dance school community safe. The Nutcracker Cast List will go up on the board on Friday 13th August. There will be some rehearsals the 8th to 10th September (before we open the studio on the 13th September). The schedule for the first few rehearsals and for the Parent Meeting will go up on the board on Friday as well. Looking forward to a great year!
